India Internship / Business Studies Program - Overview

IndiaInternships.com creates opportunities for students, graduates, faculty and professionals to gain valuable credentials and experience through work and study in Bangalore, India.  The ideal candidates for this program are those individuals who are committed to building their resumés and gaining work experience in India.

By providing them a front-row seat to observe how business practices are evolving in Bangalore that are changing the way leading companies of the world operate, participants gain the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively lead these operations in the future.  They will also develop credentials and connections that will facilitate placement in the most competitive academic institutions and in leadership positions with multinational companies.

Format
IndiaInternships.com places highly qualified university students and graduates from around the globe in internships with respected multinational companies.  Participants typically work at their internship Monday through Thursday.  Fridays are dedicated to India Business Studies. The curriculum, designed to provide participants a thorough overview of the Indian business and management climate, is taught by some of the country’s most qualified professors and business professionals.  The work and study components compliment each other; internships provide participants with an opportunity to apply concepts learned in the international business studies coursework as well as observe innovative management practices.

Program Duration and Dates
Each program is 10 weeks in duration.  There are three sessions:

Winter Spring February – Mid April
Summer June – Mid August
Fall September – Mid November

Internship
Internships are available in a wide range of industries.  Participants typically work at their assigned internship Monday-Thursday from ~10:00 am to ~6:00 pm.  (Note:  final schedule to be determined by the Company).  During the internship, participants are most typically assigned to the marketing, business development, human resources or customer service departments of the company.  Interns can expect to carry out a variety of tasks including market research, competitor analysis, direct marketing, client liaison, client and product presentations, and website and brochure design, depending on their own background and experience.
Host companies in the past have included:  Motorola, The Timken Company, Aegis Communications Group, Millipore, and Microland .  Other companies who have expressed interest in interns include Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Cranes Software International, Ltd., Sun Microsystems, the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce and the American Chamber of Commerce.  For more information Please visit the Internship Program web site.

India Business Studies
Participants take approximately eight hours of class per week.  Most classes will be held on Fridays from ~ 8:00am to ~ 6:00pm on the new campus of the International Center for India and Management Studies (known as ICMIS) in Bangalore.  For more information Please visit the India Business Studies website.

Stipend
Some hosting companies may elect to pay interns a modest stipend at the end of each month of completed work.  This is usually enough to cover basic daily living expenses (e.g., food, entertainment).

Accommodations

Social and Networking Activities
A social hour and networking opportunities are scheduled for specified Friday evenings, providing participants:

  • Opportunity to address questions in more depth with professors and visiting professionals
  • Networking opportunities with corporate guests
  • Time to share experiences with other participants

Weekend Excursions
Short duration (2-5 day) study tours will also be available to major sites in South India.  Past excursions have included Mysore, Belur and Halebid.

Application Procedure & Deadlines
Interested candidates should complete the online application and mail with all supporting documents to the address provided.  Application approval will be based on a review of information provided on the application form and supplementary materials, including a transcript and one letter of recommendation.  A telephone interview may also be requested.  A $75 non-refundable deposit must be returned with your application.  You are encouraged to apply early; complete applications are reviewed as they are received.  Any applications submitted after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis and must be accompanied by all application materials.  For more information Please visit the Application website.

Please keep in mind that the application process is competitive and IndiaInternships.com cannot accept all candidates.

After application, applicants who do not hold passports and students who hold passports that will expire within 90 days of the program return date should apply for a passport immediately.

Tuition and Fees
The program fees are based on estimates and may change depending on international economic factors.

Price includes:  Airport pickup/drop off in Bangalore, pre-departure package (program information, Bangalore information, suggested packing list), orientation program and materials(orientation manual/resource guide, map and atlas of Bangalore and India, cell phone and instructions for use, campus and surrounding area tour, welcome banquet), assistance in securing accommodations, internship placement, India business studies classes, study materials, social and networking events,  medical insurance, emergency cards (laminated emergency cards with directions and 24-hour contact numbers for IndiaInternships.com staff and recommended clinics)

Not included:  Airfare to/from India ($1,500 and up), passport and visa fees, accommodations, meals ($500), transportation to and from ICMIS and the internship, travel not related to coursework on internship, optional excursions to South India, laundry, personal expenses (e.g., laundry, postage, telephone calls, souvenirs, non-program related travel, internet fees, etc.).
