What is involved in establishing a leadership development and internship program?

Most of your decisions for a program will center around the objectives you have for developing and hiring future management talent with global and specifically Indian competencies.   Your key decisions are to determine

What kind of budget is needed to establish a program?

Internship programs are inexpensive when compared to other methods to develop or hire talent with rare global and India management competencies. We assume that our clients seek interns not only for current project needs, but as candidates for future permanent placement.  In addition to gaining value from their expertise, companies want interns to gain a positive view of the company and consider future employment.

  • Pre-departure planning and cultural preparation (e.g., packing suggestions, travel health considerations, correspondence with student’s University regarding academic status and preparations for credit transfer, cultural introduction …) via detailed Program Guide

  • Health coverage while in India
  • Pre-departure reading on India and job preparation

How long should a program run?

India Leadership Development designs custom internship programs based on the duration and schedule specifications of our clients. The length of time needed to conduct a successful program is based on your intentions for the graduates.  Program for interns in the midst of their academic studies tend to correspond to Fall and Spring terms or abbreviated Summer terms.  Some of our clients prefer to target students who have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree and have more schedule flexibility.  These students are also more amenable to accept post program employment offers.   We will assist in developing a calendar that will work for your specific needs.

How can a program be customized?

We will customize the program to meet each client’s specific needs and restraints.  Programs can be customized to target specific experience levels (e.g., college undergraduates, graduate students, etc..), specific durations (3 month, 6 month, 1 year, other), schedules (summer, half-year), type of school/level of experience (e.g., undergraduate or graduate school, degree programs, certification, language proficiency).

What are my responsibilities once a program is established?

To ensure a program's success, your key role is in the promotion of the program and setting up the parameters of the internship within your own organization. IndiaInternships.com offers consulting services for designing the internship role and responsibilities and for promoting the program. We can also assist with the promotion. Your other responsibilities include providing funds for the program, providing feedback after internship is completed and announcing or publicizing internship awards.

What recruiting and pre-departure services are provided?

Our services typically include helping you to design an effective program and application materials, receiving and processing applications, selecting and notifying recipients, notifying nonrecipients, paying students a stipend on your behalf,  and providing comprehensive pre-departure and in-country support. We also respond to applicant questions and assign a consultant to provide you regular status updates.
